In April 2004, Obama told the Chicago Sun-Times he had three spiritual mentors: Jeremiah Wright, James Meeks, And Father Michale Pfleger. Rev. Wright's opinion that America deserved the 9-11 attacks and his rant against Hillary Clinton for being white are well known. Wright married Obama, baptized his children, and advised him for 20 years.

James Meeks is a frankly racist, rabidly homophobic minister who ran for governor of Illinois on the sole issue of opposing gay marriage and runs a Halloween "Fright House" depicting gay people going to hell. He is ranked in the top 10 anti-gay Black ministers by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Fr. Pfleger is a Catholic priest with close ties to Louis Farrakhan and an early supporter of Obama. As a state senator, Obama obtained $225,000 in grants for Pfleger's small parish.
